Grecian Folklore Inspired Table by the Sea

Updated: Jan 30, 2021

We’re suckers for a Grecian love affair, and this boho conceptualization by MBW Events is no exception! The textures of crocheted thread against delicate porcelain are the perfect complement for the vibrant pink bougainvillea from Ragopoulos Flowers that trail the table. Inspired by the mythical folklore we all know and love, these images from Anna Roussos of the table overlooking the sea are truly a dream.

From the photographer, Anna Roussos: Naturally, love has always been a central piece in the Greek folk literature and arts, and the proliferation of elopement weddings in myths is astounding. From the love story of Psyche (Soul) and Cupid to postmodern fairy tales, muses and brides bask in the Aegean sun in anytime, anywhere sultry silk gowns paired with unexpected hits of decadent shine.

This gorgeous shoot embraces elements of Greek folk art, traditional mortars and pestles (employed for the decor , as votive candle holders as well as the wedding cake base), the famed golden coins named “flouria” (a luxe staple of folk bridal wear), as well as the iconic fuchsia and red bougainvillea blooms thriving across the islands.

Flouria were incorporated in the bridal dress, the bride’s jewelry (a leather headpiece and a gold statement ring), the groom’s cufflinks (bound with blue stones), the table decor and the favors (pochettes and rosaries) but also in the embellishment of the all-white tiered wedding cake. Homespun crochet runners and macrame hangings were applied to the lighting, and tablescape artfully styled with blue and white flatware by White Lilac.

Flirting with the immaculate Cycladian white our concept stylist and planner MBW Events dressed the bride in a long-sleeved, custom-made lace, double piece gown by Mairi Mparola. The rustic pasty backdrop of Ios Club conjured up a time of innocence and spontaneity sought after by the global nomad bride who elopes with her groom in the island of sentiments.
